Just a 10 minute taxi ride outside of the city center is Parque Metropolitano, a tropical and dry forest park. We fancied taking a walk, so we made our way up one of the trails that took us to the highest point in the park to a viewing platform where we had a yummy picnic with views of the city and the canal. On our way we saw a cute marmoset monkey swinging through the trees, a hard-to-spot coati hiding in the bushes (dog sized mammal), giant blue butterfly's and lots of lovely birds.
